Solutions for a Healthy Colorado:

I am committed to working towards a solution for providing all Coloradoans with affordable, accessible, and reliable health care. Up until this point there has been too much talk about rights and not enough about responsibilities. As a member and former president of the Colorado State Association of Health Underwriters (CSAHU), I helped move forward a proposal to strengthen but not replace our current system, which insures 83% of Coloradoans. My goal is to dramatically reduce the number of uninsured individuals in Colorado.

I believe that the current system should not be replaced but significantly improved. 50% of the uninsured are Low Wage Workers that are unable to afford today's high premiums. These workers should receive vouchers that would reduce the costs of emergency rooms and receive appropriate preventative and basic care that decreases overall health care spending. Together we can improve the quality of health care by rewarding providers for higher quality care on a "pay for performance" system.

We can also reduce costs by using Internet based tools that empower consumers to explore the cost and quality of providers and plans in order to make informed choices.

The government should increase Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP reimbursements so doctor are encouraged to accept patients with those plans. Of the 17% of uninsured Coloradoans, 25% are eligible for government plans, both they and the government should take an aggressive role in enrolling them in those plans.
